The Counties Manukau Rugby Union (CMRU) is the rugby union -Provinzverband the former Franklin District south of Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand . The association's selection team in the national championship ITM Cup is called the Steelers , and they play their home games at the Growers Stadium in Pukekohe .
The association was formed in 1955 when the clubs in the southern suburbs of Auckland separated from the Auckland Rugby Football Union . Players from Counties Manukau are eligible to play in the international Super Rugby league and are called up by the Chiefs (1995-1998 by the Blues ). 18 clubs are affiliated to the association.
