Pukekohe is a formerly independent city in the urban area of ​​the Auckland Council on the North Island of New Zealand . Origin of name

The name of the city was borrowed from a hill of the same name south of the city. In the Māori language , " puke " means hill and " kohe " is derived from " Kohekohe ", a New Zealand tree (Dysoxylum spectabile).

The city is located about 42 km south-southeast of downtown Auckland and about 70 km north-northwest of Hamilton , on the northern edge of the plain of the Waikato River , which is about 8 km south looking its way west to the Tasman Sea .
