The Waikato Rugby Union (WRU) is the rugby union provincial federation of the Waikato region on the North Island of New Zealand . The association and jersey colors are red, yellow and black. The association's selection team in the national championship ITM Cup plays its home games at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton . The association was founded in 1921.
Waikato players make up most of the Chiefs team that plays in the international super rugby championship . For this reason, the Chiefs' home games are also played in Hamilton.
