Alexander James "Ali" Williams (born April 30, 1981 in Auckland , New Zealand) is a New Zealand rugby union player on the position of the second-line striker . He plays for Tasman in the Air New Zealand Cup and for the Crusaders in the Super 14 . He is also a New Zealand international. He was one of the 22 'reconditioned all blacks ' who were not allowed to play any Super 14 game in the 2007 season before the 8th tournament week because of the 2007 Rugby World Cup .
In May 2007 he was sent home early by the Blues and was banned from playing in the Super 14 semi-finals against the South African Sharks . According to Andy Dalton , the Blues' executive director, management and players made the decision to remove Williams from team quarters due to incidents alleged to have happened while the team was in Perth, Australia, where they played against the Westerns the previous week Force played. These incidents were not elaborated on by Dalton, he just said that Williams' behavior was improper.
When Ali Williams injured himself in front of the Tri Nations in 2007 , the problems of the All Blacks intensified in the second row storm. In the 61-10 win in the second test match against France in Wellington on June 9th. Williams broke his jaw during a duel with French opponent Sébastien Chabal . He was taken to the hospital, where the bad news was confirmed. As a result, he missed the All Blacks' Tri-Nations campaign. For the World Cup, however, he got fit again in time and was a regular on the team. However, the World Cup ended with the worst performance of all time for the All Blacks after they surprisingly lost to hosts France by two points in the quarter-finals.
Because of the problems with the Blues, Williams moved in 2008 to the Crusaders and the Tasman Provincial Association. In his first Super 14 season for the Crusaders, he immediately won the title, which he also won in 2003 with the Blues.
After David Nucifora resigned as coach of the Blues at the end of the 2008 season, Williams decided to return to the Blues after just one year with the Crusaders.
