Máximo André Biennes

Máximo André Biennès (born July 29, 1921 in Albi in the Tarn department , France , † August 10, 2007 ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Cáceres in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso .

Life

Máximo André Biennès joined the Order of the Franciscans (TOR) - Order of the regulated Tertiary of St. Francis and was ordained a priest on June 20, 1947 . He studied philosophy from 1939 to 1942 and Catholic theology from 1943 to 1947 at the seminary in Albi, France. From 1974 to 1977 he completed postgraduate studies in philosophy and education in São João del Rei .

From 1948 to 1955 he was vicar in Guajará-Mirim in the northern state of Rondônia in Brazil. From 1955 to 1967 he was Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of São Luíz de Cáceres . On November 3, 1967 he was by Pope Paul VI. appointed Bishop of São Luíz de Cáceres. He received his episcopal ordination from Agnelo Cardinal Rossi on February 25, 1968 in São Paulo . Co-consecrators were the prelate of Chapada , Wunibald Talleur, OFM , and the prelate of Diamantino , Alonso Silveira de Mello SJ . His motto was "In Via Justitiae". On July 24, 1991, Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation.

In Cáceres, the Centro de Direitos Humanos Dom Máximo Biennès (CDHDMB) ("Diocesan Center for Human Rights Dom Maximo Biennes") was named after him.
