Alonso Silveira de Mello

Alonso Silveira de Mello SJ (born January 21, 1901 in Cruz Alta , Rio Grande do Sul , † October 2, 1987 in Diamantino , Mato Grosso ) was a Brazilian religious , Roman Catholic bishop and prelate of Diamantino .

Life

Alonso Silveira de Mello joined the Jesuit order and was ordained a priest on December 6, 1932 .

Pope Pius II appointed him on November 12, 1949 as apostolic administrator of the Diamantino Territorial Prelature, which was established in 1929 . On June 13, 1955, the Pope appointed him first prelate of Diamantino and titular bishop of Nasai . The Archbishop of Porto Alegre , Alfredo Vicente Scherer , donated him episcopal ordination on August 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Luís Victor Sartori , Bishop of Montes Claros , and Benedito Zorzi , Bishop of Caxias .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope Paul VI accepted on November 29, 1971 his resignation as prelate of Diamantino and the simultaneous renunciation of his titular seat.
