Paulo Antônio de Conto (born October 12, 1942 in Encantado , Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Montenegro .

Life

Paulo Antônio de Conto was ordained a priest for the diocese of Santa Cruz do Sul on July 13, 1968 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of São Luíz de Cáceres on July 24, 1991 . The old bishop of Santa Cruz do Sul, Alberto Frederico Etges , donated him episcopal ordination on September 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Máximo André Biennès TOR , Bishop Emeritus of São Luíz de Cáceres, and Aloísio Sinésio Bohn , Bishop of Santa Cruz do Sul. As a motto he chose MIHI VIVERE CHRISTUS .

On May 27, 1998 he was appointed the first bishop of the diocese of Criciúma , which was established on the same date . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 2, 2008 as the first bishop of the diocese of Montenegro established on the same date .

From July to December 2015, he was also Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Passo Fundo during the Sedis vacancy .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on October 18, 2017. From January 22, 2020 to July 4, 2020, Paulo Antônio de Conto was Apostolic Administrator of Nova Friburgo .
