The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Passo Fundo ( Latin Archidioecesis Passofundensis , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Passo Fundo ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Passo Fundo in the state of Rio Grande do Sul .

history

Cathedral Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Passo Fundo

The diocese Passo Fundo was on March 10, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. Erected from the cession of the diocese of Santa Maria and subordinated to the archdiocese of Porto Alegre as a suffragan . On May 22, 1961, the Diocese of Passo Fundo gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Frederico Westphalen . Another assignment of territory took place on May 27, 1971 to establish the diocese of Erexim .

On April 13, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the diocese Passo Fundo to the rank of archbishopric and metropolitan seat.
