Antonio Carlos Altieri

Antônio Carlos Altieri SDB (born October 18, 1951 in São Paulo ) is a Roman Catholic religious and retired Archbishop of Passo Fundo .

Life

After he had made his first profession on January 31, 1971 in the religious community of the Salesians of Don Bosco and completed his philosophical-theological studies, he was ordained a priest on December 17, 1978 .

On July 26, 2006 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Caraguatatuba . The Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia , Geraldo Majella Cardinal Agnelo , donated him episcopal consecration on October 28 of the same year. Co- consecrators were his predecessor in office in Caraguatatuba, Bishop Fernando Mason OFMConv , and Eduardo Pinheiro da Silva SDB, auxiliary bishop in Campo Grande . On November 5, 2006, Altieris was inaugurated into his diocese.

On July 11, 2012 Benedict XVI appointed him. to the Archbishop of Passo Fundo.

Soon after taking office, there was a conflict with part of the clergy. As a result of an apostolic visitation carried out by the retired Curia Cardinal Cláudio Hummes in May 2015 , he offered his resignation "for grave reasons". On July 15, 2015, Pope Francis accepted his early resignation.
