2010 season of Super 14

The 2011 season marked the first edition of Super Rugby , a rugby union competition involving 15 franchise teams from Australia , New Zealand and South Africa . From 1996 to 2005 the competition was called Super 12, from 2006 to 2010 Super 14. The season began on February 18, 2011 and ended with the final on July 9, 2011. A total of 125 games were played. The 15 teams were divided into three conferences corresponding to the three countries. Champions were the Queensland Reds from Brisbane for the first time .

mode

Each team played in the regular season according to the following pattern:

  • Within the conference: Each team played two games against the four other teams in its conference (one home and one away game).
  • Other conferences: Each team played home games against four representatives from the other conferences and away games against four other representatives (as a result, there was no meeting with one representative from the conferences).

The top-ranked teams from the three conferences and the three next-ranked teams in the overall table ( wildcard ) made it into the play-offs . The two better Conference winners received a bye to the quarterfinals. In this, the third conference winner met the third-placed wildcard team, while the best-placed wildcard team met the second-placed team. This was followed by the semi-finals and finals, with the home right being determined based on the higher placement in the overall table.
