Morné Steyn (born July 11, 1984 in Cape Town ) is a South African rugby union player who plays on the position of connector for the South African national team , the provincial team Blue Bulls and in super rugby for the Bulls .

Career

Steyn started professional rugby with the Blue Bulls in 2003. He helped the team to move into the final of the Currie Cup in 2008 , but where the Natal Sharks were victorious. In 2009 Steyn gained international fame. In the semi-finals of the Super 14 he scored four drop goals, no one had ever achieved this number in a Super 14 game before. In the final, he ensured the Bulls' sovereign success with numerous successful kicks, who celebrated their second championship title. His performances brought him into the South African squad for the British and Irish Lions Tour . In the second test, he became the match winner with a penalty kick in the last minute of the game. In the Tri-Nations game against New Zealand , only his fifth international match, he broke several records. He scored all 31 points of his team. No one before had scored so many points against New Zealand or in any game at the Tri Nations. South Africa ultimately won the Tri Nations and Steyn became the tournament's top scorer.
