Charles Luke McAlister (born August 28, 1983 in Waitara , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand rugby union player on the position of the connecting half and the inner three quarters . He currently plays in the top 14 at Stade Toulousain .
McAlister was born in Waitara, New Zealand and attended Westlake Boys High School where he played as a liaison half. As a professional, he first appeared for the Blues in the Super 14 and for North Harbor in the Air New Zealand Cup . He also played for Silverdale in the North Harbor Premier Competition. McAlister won the World Rugby Board 's Best U-19 Player of the Year in 2002 . He made his All Blacks debut at the age of 21 against the British and Irish Lions in 2005. In his first 10 games, he has a total of 72 points (3 tries, 12 raises, 11 penalties). After the Tri Nations in 2007 he was appointed to the All Blacks World Championship squad.
While preparing for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France , rumors surfaced that he will play in the top 14 for Stade Toulousain after the World Cup . Despite his young age and New Zealand's rigid selection policy of only nominating players for the All Blacks who play in New Zealand, he would like to work outside of New Zealand for a while. His father and agent both confirmed that he wanted to go to Europe.
After Toulouse turned down the offer, McAlister was in negotiations with the Sale Sharks and Munster Rugby . He decided on the Sale Sharks from England and moved there after the World Cup. His father also got a job as a trainer with the Sharks. McAlister signed a two-year contract. After spending two years in England, he moved back to New Zealand at the end of the season for the North Harbor region and the Blues. For the 2011/12 season he was signed by the French record champions Stade Toulousain.
