2005 season of Super 12

The 2006 season marked the first edition of Super 14 , a rugby union competition involving 14 franchise teams from Australia , New Zealand and South Africa . The Super 12 competition, which has existed since 1996, was expanded to include two teams, Western Force from Perth (Australia) and Central Cheetahs from Bloemfontein (South Africa).

The season began on February 10, 2006 and ended with the final on May 27, 2006. A total of 94 games were played, with each team playing a round robin against the 13 other teams. There followed two semi-finals and finally the final. The champions were for the sixth time the Crusaders from the New Zealand city of Christchurch .
