Super Rugby 2017

The 2018 season was the eighth edition of Super Rugby , a rugby union competition in which 15 franchise teams from Australia , New Zealand and South Africa as well as Argentina and Japan have participated since this season . The season started on February 17, 2018 and ended with the finals on August 3, 2018. 120 games were played during the regular season and 7 games in the finals series. The 15 teams were divided into three conferences with 5 teams each. Champion became the New Zealand team Crusaders .

mode

Each team plays 16 games in the regular season according to the following system:

  • Within their own conference: One home and one away game against the other four teams
  • Other games: 4 home or 4 away games against teams from the other two conferences

The three best-placed teams of the three conferences, as well as the five next-ranked teams ( wildcard ), based on the points scored (overall table), move into the playoffs . The classification is as follows:

  • Ranks 1–3: Conference winners, sorted by their scores from the regular season
  • Rank 4: Best wildcard team based on the number of points from the regular season. In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the following criteria apply in the order given: 1. Number of wins, 2. Difference in game points, 3. Number of attempts, 4. Difference in attempts, 5th coin toss.
  • Ranks 5–8: Wildcard teams, sorted by the number of points from the regular season. In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the following criteria apply in the order given: 1. Number of wins, 2. Difference in game points, 3. Number of attempts, 4. Difference in attempts, 5th coin toss.
