Kieran James Read (born October 26, 1985 in Papakura , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand rugby union player on the position of winger and number eight .
Read went to college in the Auckland suburb of Rosehill, Papakura District . In his youth, he was a player in the New Zealand national rugby school selection (2003), the U-19 national team (2004) and the U-21 national team (2005-2006). He also played in New Zealand national youth selections as a batsman cricket .
After finishing school, he moved to Christchurch to study at the University of Canterbury . There he joined the university's rugby club. In 2009 this honored him with the Blues Award and the nomination as Sportsman of the Year. Since 2006 he has played for the Canterbury RFU selection in the New Zealand rugby championship . With her he was the team captain 2008 champion. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, three more championships followed. He also won the Ranfurly Shield with Canterbury in 2007 (one successful defense), 2009 (four successful defenses) and 2010 (two successful defenses). In the last three seasons, however, he was hardly or not at all due to national team commitments.
He has also been playing for the Crusaders in international super rugby since 2007 . With them he won the title in 2008. In 2007, 2009 and 2010 they failed in the semi-finals and in 2011 in the final of the championship.
In 2008 he made his debut due to his performances during the November international games in Europe for the New Zealand national team (All Blacks), after he had previously played for the Junior All Blacks in 2007 .
The next year he established himself as a regular in the national team. With her he was able to successfully defend the Bledisloe Cup against the Australian national team (Wallabies) in 2009, 2010 and 2011 , win the Tri Nations in 2010 and win the Grand Slam in the same year. Read was also named New Zealand Rugby Player of the Year in 2010 by the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU).
His greatest successes in rugby so far have been winning the Rugby Union World Cup in 2011 in his own country and defending his title in England and Wales in 2015 .
