Paragominas (mine)

The mine in Paragominas is a bauxite mine in the state of Pará in Brazil , approx. 70 km from the city of Paragominas . Production started in 2007 and expanded in 2008. The mine was initially owned by Vale and then gradually sold to Norwegian Hydro , which has been sole owner since 2016. The bauxite is ground and transported in a 244 km long pipeline to Barcarena , where it is processed into aluminum at Hydro Alunorte and shipped to aluminum producers in Brazil and other countries. The Paragominas mine employs approximately 1,300 permanent employees and approximately 350 employees on long-term contracts.
