Piri Awahou Tihou Weepu (born September 7, 1983 in Lower Hutt ) is a New Zealand rugby union player on the position of the scrum half . He plays for the All Blacks on an international level, for the Wellington Lions in the Air New Zealand Cup and for the Hurricanes in the Super 14 .
Career
In 2004 Weepu first received the honor of playing for the All Blacks against Wales . In 2005, he was recalled to the All Blacks squad to play in the first Tri Nations game against the South African Springboks , despite not having previously been in the squad against the British and Irish Lions .
He played club rugby with the Hutt Old Boys, under the wing of his mentor DB ( Lower Hutt rugby legend Derek Bruce), and went to Te Aute College . During the 2006 Super 14 final, Piri Weepu made a bad tackle and passed out. Because of the thick fog that prevailed during the game, the team doctors could not see that he was actually no longer able to play and so they allowed him to continue playing. Weepu later announced that he couldn't remember the whole game.
Weepu bases his game on his strength. He is extremely strong and hard for a scrum half, but his physical abilities, agility or speed and thus also his game do not seem to influence. He is considered one of the most talented scrum halves from New Zealand as he has the skills of a good foosball player , which is very unusual for this position, and because of his rugby league background he can also play as No. 10 ( liaison half ).
