Ben John Franks (born March 27, 1984 in Melbourne , Australia ) is a New Zealand rugby union player on the pillar position . One of Frank's strengths is that he can play on both sides, left and right, in the front row in the scrum . His younger brother Owen Franks is also a New Zealand rugby union player.

Franks attended Boys' High School and Aranui High School in Christchurch . In his youth he played for the New Zealand U-19 national rugby team in 2003 and for the U-21 national team from 2004 to 2005. After he had previously played in the youth team of the Canterbury RFU , he was then appointed to the squad of the Canterbury First Team for the New Zealand rugby championship in 2005 . In his first season, however, he only got a six-minute mission in the last regular game of the season.

From 2007 to 2008 Canterbury Franks loaned out to Tasman RU , which is why he often played for both teams during one season before he finally moved to Tasman in 2009.

Since 2006 he has also been playing for the Crusaders in Super Rugby . With them he was able to win the title in 2006 and 2008. In 2007 and 2010 they failed in the semi-finals and in 2011 in the final of the championship. His brother Owen has also played for the Crusaders since 2009.

Because of his achievements, he was appointed to the squad of the New Zealand national team (All Blacks) for the November test matches in Hong Kong and Europe in 2008 . There he played as a supplementary player in none of the five international matches, but only against the Irish provincial team Munster Rugby . In the end, the All Blacks were able to win a Grand Slam for the third time in their history .

The next national team nomination came two years later. 2010 Franks made his international debut against the Irish national team during the June Test Games, which the All Blacks won 66:28. In this game he scored a try and at the same time ran for the first time with his brother for New Zealand. With him and the All Blacks he was also able to win the Tri Nations 2010 , and successfully defend the Bledisloe Cup against the Australian national team (Wallabies), but he missed the November tour and another Grand Slam of New Zealand. In 2011 he defended the Bledisloe Cup again with the All Blacks and won the title at the Rugby Union World Cup 2011 in their own country with his brother .
