Danube delta dwarf goby is a potentially extinct species from the family of gobies . She is / was native to the region of the Danube Delta in Romania .
features
Knipowitschia cameliae reached a standard length of 30 to 32 mm. The males' wedding dress was black with a bluish tinge. The back was scaly in front of rays 1 to 4 of the second dorsal fin. The females had gray bellies. 31 to 34 rows of scales were arranged on the lateral line organ .
Occurrence, habitat, way of life
Knipowitschia cameliae is only known from a single, small and shallow brackish water lagoon near Portita south of the Danube Delta in the Golovita-Sinoe-Razelm lake complex. This lagoon lies behind sand dunes on the coast and has a muddy bottom. Nothing is known about the way of life.
status
The IUCN lists Knipowitschia cameliae in the "critically endangered" (possibly extinct) category. The last record was in 1994. During excursions to the lagoon in 1995 and 1998 no more specimens of this species could be found.
