Andrew Ellis (born February 21, 1984 in Christchurch , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand rugby union player on the scrum position .

He currently plays for the Crusaders in the Super 14 and for Canterbury in the provincial rugby. Ellis had the honor of being nominated for the New Zealand U21. In his first year in the Super 14, he ousted All Black Kevin Senio from the Crusaders' starting grid. Ellis could not play in the Super 14 final in 2006 because he injured himself in the semifinals against the Bulls . Ellis could not be nominated for the June internationals of the All Blacks .

Because of his position as a half-player and his long, blond hair, he was often compared to former New Zealand international and Canterbury half-player Justin Marshall in his early days . Ellis was a surprise nomination for the 2007 World Cup that was announced on July 22, 2007. He was preferred to the Wellington half-player Piri Weepu .
