500 cc class
- In the 500 cm³ class, Australian Mick Doohan wins the world title on a Honda . He prevails against the Italian Max Biaggi and the Spaniard Àlex Crivillé (both also Honda). For the 33-year-old, this is the fifth title in a row in the premier class and the last of his career. In the constructors' championship, Honda wins ahead of Yamaha and Suzuki .
250 cc class
- In the 250 cm³ class, the Italian Loris Capirossi won the title on Aprilia ahead of his teammates Valentino Rossi (also Italy) and Tetsuya Harada (Japa). For the 25 Capirossi, this is the third and also the last world title of his career. In the constructors' championship Aprilia prevailed against Honda and Yamaha .
125 cc class
- The 32-year-old Japanese Kazuto Sakata wins the world title in the eight-liter class on Aprilia with his second title. His compatriot Tomomi Manako came in second , and Italian Marco Melandri (both on Honda ) third . In the constructors' championship, Honda wins ahead of Aprilia and Yamaha .
Superbike World Championship
- Briton Carl Fogarty won the drivers' championship on Ducati ahead of New Zealander Aaron Slight ( Honda ) and Australian Troy Corser (Ducati). For the 33-year-old, this is the third title win in his career in this class. In the constructors' championship, Ducati wins ahead of Honda and Yamaha .

World Supersport Series
- The 38-year-old Italian Fabrizio Pirovano on a Suzuki won the drivers' championship ahead of his compatriot Vittoriano Guareschi ( Yamaha ) and the French Stéphane Chambon (Suzuki). In the constructors' championship, Suzuki beats Yamaha and Ducati .
