  • October 6th - Laurent Aïello wins the DTM season with 70 points ahead of Bernd Schneider (Mercedes-Benz) with 64 points. In the brand classification, Mercedes-Benz prevailed just ahead of Audi.

The season was overshadowed by the accidental death of the Japanese Daijirō Katō , who fell badly on April 7th at the MotoGP race for the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka and died 13 days later of his injuries.

  • In the MotoGP class, which was held for the first time, the 23-year-old Italian Valentino Rossi won the fourth world title of his career on a Honda . He prevails against his compatriot Max Biaggi ( Yamaha ) and the Japanese Tōru Ukawa (Honda). In the constructors' championship, Honda wins ahead of Yamaha and Suzuki .

Superbike World Championship

  • The American Colin Edwards won the drivers' championship on a Honda ahead of the Australian Troy Bayliss and the Briton Neil Hodgson (both Ducati ). For the 28-year-old, this is the second title win of his career in this category after 2000. In the constructors' championship, Ducati prevailed ahead of Honda and Aprilia .
