  • In the MotoGP class, the 26-year-old Italian Valentino Rossi won the seventh world title of his career on a Yamaha and the fourth in a row in this category. He prevails against his compatriot Marco Melandri and the American Nicky Hayden (both Honda ). In the constructors' championship, Yamaha wins ahead of Honda and Ducati .

  • The 19-year-old Swiss Thomas Lüthi won the world title in the eight-liter class on a Honda . Mika Kallio from Finland finished second, and Hungarian Gábor Talmácsi third , both on KTM . In the constructors' championship, KTM wins ahead of Honda and Aprilia.

  • The Australian Troy Corser wins the drivers' championship on a Suzuki ahead of his compatriot Chris Vermeulen ( Honda ) and the Japanese Noriyuki Haga ( Yamaha ). For the 34-year-old, this is the second world title of his career in this category after 1996. In the constructors' championship, Suzuki wins ahead of Honda and Ducati .
