Polina Astakhova
Polina Hryhoriwna Astachowa ( Ukrainian Поліна Григорівна Астахова , often in the Russian form Полина Григорьевна Астахова / Polina Grigorievna Astachowa ; * the thirtieth October 1936 in Zaporizhia , † 5. August 2005 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Soviet gymnast .
Astachowa won the gold medal with the Soviet squad at the Olympic Games in 1956 , 1960 and 1964 and gold on the uneven bars in 1960 and 1964 .
Then she was a coach and led the Soviet team to win the title at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. In 2002 she was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame . In the last years of her life, Astachowa lived a secluded life in Kiev , suffering from severe bronchial asthma . She died in Kiev at the age of 68 and was buried there in the Baikowe Cemetery.
