Reiko Shiota
Reiko Shiota ( Japanese 潮 田 玲子 , Shiota Reiko ; born September 30, 1983 in Kanda , Fukuoka Prefecture ) is a badminton player from Japan .
Career
Reiko Shiota attended Aratsu Middle School in Kanda and then the private high school in neighboring Kitakyūshū , which is attached to the International University of Kyūshū , like her future teammate at Unisys Ayane Kurihara. From March 22nd, 2002 to April 30th, 2010 she played for the Sanyo corporate team and then moved to Nihon Unisys .
Shiota won her first international title in Scotland a year before her first national title. Together with Kumiko Ogura , with whom she achieved all of her great successes, she never gave up this Japanese double title until 2008. In 2005 both became Asian runners-up, in 2007 they took bronze at the same event. In the same year they were also third at the World Cup. In 2008 both qualified for the Olympics and finished fifth there. In the badminton world and in Japan, the pairing Ogura / Shiota to Ogushio is simplified; her successful mixed doubles with Shintarō Ikeda in 2009 also Ikeshio .
Reiko Shiota enjoys an unusually high popularity for Asian badminton players in the media of the western industrialized countries, as her appearance comes close to the local ideas of a Japanese ideal of beauty.
