The 7th World Games 2005 took place from July 14th to 24th, 2005 in Duisburg . In addition, numerous sports competitions took place in the twin cities of Oberhausen , Mülheim an der Ruhr and in Bottrop . The competitions were held at 25 different sports facilities, most of them in the Duisburg sports park . This was also where the so-called World Games Plaza was located , which was the central meeting point for athletes at all World Games and the place for the cultural framework program.
In total, over 3,000 athletes from all over the world competed in 40 non-Olympic sports.

Competitions were held in 39 sports in the categories of artistry and dance, precision sports, trend sports, martial arts, ball sports and weight training. There are no competitions in the invitation sport Aikidō . Instead, several country delegations demonstrated their skills. In addition, a large international aikido course was held as part of the World Games.

Results
In the medal table, Russia was the most successful nation with 27 gold medals, followed by Germany and Italy. Austria and Switzerland came in 13th and 14th.
