The 11th World Games are scheduled for July 7-17, 2022 in Birmingham , Alabama . After the first World Games in Santa Clara in 1981 , World Games will be held in the United States for the second time .
The games were originally scheduled for July 15-21, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , however , the IOC postponed the Olympic Games by one year, which is why the two events were about to collide. The International World Games Association then postponed the World Games by one year.
canditature
A total of three cities applied to host the event. On January 22nd, 2015, the International World Games Association in Lausanne chose Birmingham to host the World Games 2021.
Competition venues
In addition to Legion Field and the Bartow Arena of the University of Alabama at Birmingham , Barber Motorsports Park will also serve as a sports facility. However, Legion Field is expected to be replaced with the new Protective Stadium ahead of the 2021 World Games.
