history

Calicilor Bridge in 1856

In the past, Calea Rahovei Street was the main route to Alexandria as Podul Calicilor Street or Flower Traders' Way ( Drumul Florăreselor in Romanian ) . Podul , in Romanian the strong declination of pod , means bridge in German and comes from the tree trunks that were paved with the road as it was cheaper than stone. Podul Calicilor was full of homeless people and poor people, but the police sent them away and renamed the street Calea Craiovei to wash away the bad name.

trade

This neighborhood is home to the Liberty Center ( shopping mall ), Rahova Market, Niky Scorpion, Commercial Complex (in the Mărgeanului Zone), Kaufland (Sebastian Zone) and many small shops on Calea Rahovei Street. One point of attraction is the flower market, behind the Coșbuc market. This still reminds of the old name of the zone. The building of the former commodity exchange , now an architectural heritage , can now be recognized as The Ark, has been fundamentally rebuilt and shows the industrial architectural style from the 19th century on the outside.

transport

An express line of tram 32 runs over Calea Rahovei Street and on the Boulevard Regina Maria between Alexandriei Chaussee and Vereinigungplatz (Romanian Piața Unirii ).

Tram 32 connects to lines 1, 8, 11, 23 and 25 in the Schweres-Stau zone (Romanian Trafic-Greu ), namely Progresul Chaussee and Mall Liberty Center.
