Racquetball
Racquetball (outdated also racket tennis ) is a ball sport that counts as one of the setback games and is related to both tennis and squash . According to the German Racquetball Association, racquetball is played by around 30 million people around the world today .
The sport was developed by tennis players in the United States in the late 1920s. They used American Handball - Courts for winter training. After 1950, the perforated wooden rackets originally used for the game were replaced by stringed rackets.
The racquetball used is a hollow rubber ball that is easy to jump and is slightly smaller than a tennis ball. Racquetball is played today in a standardized court 12.192 m long and 6.096 m wide. As in squash, the opposing players use the playing field together and play the ball back over the front wall. The side and back walls of the court can be used to strategically place the ball.
Racquetball is not one of the Olympic sports , but is part of the Pan American Games, for example .
The asteroid (12426) racquetball was named after the sport.
