Helicophagus waandersii is a species of fish belonging to the genus Helicophagus within the shark catfish family. The species occurs in Sumatra , as well as in the Mae Nam Chao Phraya and the Mekong in Thailand , Cambodia , Laos and Vietnam .

Helicophagus waandersii has an elongated, laterally flattened physique. The species reaches a length of about 70 cm. The hull is pearl-colored with a black top and front. The underside of the head and the belly are white. The fins are reddish. The top and edge of the caudal fin are dark. There is a whitish spot on the top of the head. The head is conical, the mouth is below. The barbels on the upper jaw almost reach the dorsal fin, while those on the lower jaw are slightly shorter. The dorsal fin has two hard and six to seven soft rays, the pectoral fins have one hard and 10 to 11 soft rays, the pelvic fins have six soft rays and the anal fin has 38 to 42 soft rays. On the intermaxillary bone, the teeth sit in two square groups.
The species feeds on molluscs , mainly small-shelled clams.
