The defending champions in the singles were Andre Agassi in the men and Jennifer Capriati in the women. In the men's doubles these were Jonas Björkman and Todd Woodbridge , in the women's doubles Serena and Venus Williams and in the mixed Corina Morariu and Ellis Ferreira .
In men's singles, Thomas Johansson was able to win the only Grand Slam title of his career. In the women's singles, the American Jennifer Capriati was able to defend her title. The men's doubles were won by Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor, and Martina Hingis and Anna Kurnikowa won the women's doubles . In the mixed final Daniela Hantuchová and Kevin Ullyett prevailed.
