The 44th Australian Championships were a Grand Slam tennis grass court tournament hosted by the ILTF . It took place from January 20-30, 1956 in Brisbane , Australia .
Defending champions in the singles were Ken Rosewall in the men and Beryl Penrose in the women. In the men's doubles were Vic Seixas and Tony Trabert , in women's doubles Mary Hawton and Beryl Penrose, the defending champion. In mixed, Thelma Long and George Worthington were the defending champions.
