Mary Bevis Hawton

Mary Bevis Hawton (born September 4, 1924 as Mary Renetta Bevis in Sydney , † January 18, 1981 ibid) was an Australian tennis player .

Career

Bevis Hawton won a total of five titles in women's doubles and one in mixed doubles at the Australian tennis championships (now the Australian Open ). After the Second World War , she won in 1946 with her doubles partner Joyce Fitch . It was not until eight years later that it was able to repeat this success and remained unbeaten in this competition for three years in a row (1954 to 1956). After a year break, Bevis Hawton won the Grand Slam tournament for the last time in 1958. She won with her doubles partner Beryl Penrose in 1954 and 1955, and with Thelma Coyne Long in 1956 and 1958. Her most successful year was 1958, in which Mary Bevis Hawton played with her compatriot Robert Howe also won the mixed competition.

In 1946 she engaged her to Keith Ernest Hawton. The wedding took place in October 1948.

She died on January 18, 1981.
