The Australian Open 2001 took place in Melbourne in January 2001 .

The defending champions in the singles were Andre Agassi for the men and Lindsay Davenport for the women. In the men's doubles these were Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach , in the women's doubles Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs , who was also the defending champion in mixed together with Jared Palmer .

Andre Agassi won the men's singles final in three sets against Arnaud Clément . In the women's singles, Jennifer Capriati was able to prevail in the final against Martina Hingis , winning her first Grand Slam title. Jonas Björkman won the men's doubles alongside Todd Woodbridge , the Williams sisters Serena and Venus Williams won the women's doubles . Corina Morariu and Ellis Ferreira won the mixed final .
