The 47th Australian Championships were a Grand Slam tennis grass court tournament organized by the ILTF . It took place from January 16-28, 1959 in Adelaide , Australia .
The defending champions in the singles were Ashley Cooper in the men and Angela Mortimer in the women. In the men's doubles were Ashley Cooper and Neale Fraser , in the women's doubles Mary Hawton and Thelma Long were the defending champions. In mixed, Mary Hawton and Bob Howe were the defending champions.
