Renée Schuurman (born October 26, 1939 in Durban , South Africa ; † May 2001 in Howick ) was a South African tennis player , five-time winner of a Grand Slam double title and a mixed title.
Life
Renée Schuurman won four Grand Slam double titles with the South African Sandra Reynolds Price . They won the Australian Open in 1959 and the French Open in 1959, 1961 and 1962 . Schuurman won the 1963 French Open together with the British Ann Haydon-Jones .
Together with the Australian Robert Howe she won the mixed doubles title at the French championships in 1962. Her best result in individual competitions was reaching the final at the Australian championships in 1959, where she beat Australian Mary Carter Reitano with 2: 6, 3: 6 lost.
After their wedding, her name was Renée Schuurman Haygarth. Her sons Brent Haygarth and Kirk Haygarth were also successful doubles.
Schuurman died of cancer in May 2001 at the age of 61.
