Kirk Haygarth (born January 20, 1971 ) is a retired South African tennis player .

Life

Haygarth grew up as the son of Renée Schuurman , five-time winner of a Grand Slam double title and a mixed tournament, in a tennis-loving family. In 1985 he took part in the doubles competition of the junior tournament of the French Open , but lost in his first round encounter. Like his brother Brent and sister Derryn, he attended Texas A&M University .

From 1991 to mid-1993 he played mainly on lower-class tournaments of the satellite series. He then played on the ATP Challenger Tour and was able to win his first double title in Liège in August 1993 at the side of Brendan Curry . As a result, he competed in some tournaments together with his brother Brent. Their greatest mutual success was the semi-finals in Pontevedra , but they parted ways again in February 1994. In the same month he won the Challenger tournament in Celle with the American Bill Behrens with a final victory over the local heroes Alexander Mronz and Arne Thoms ; both were also in the final of Cali in May 1994 . He won the third and last double title on the ATP Challenger Tour alongside Joshua Eagle in Oberstaufen . He was less successful on the ATP World Tour , his best result was taking part in the semi-finals at the St. Pölten tournament together with the Australian Jon Ireland . Other notable successes were quarter-finals in Tel Aviv with Marcos Ondruska and in Johannesburg with Grant Stafford . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1994 with position 131 in doubles and 1992 with position 944 in singles.

For a Grand Slam tournament, he could not qualify in singles, doubles or mixed in the course of his career. He had his only appearance in 1993 at Wimbledon , where he failed at the side of Robbie Koenig in the first round of qualification.
