The 41st Australian Championships were a Grand Slam tennis grass court tournament hosted by the ILTF . It took place January 9-17, 1953 in Melbourne , Australia .
Defending champions in the singles were Ken McGregor in the men and Thelma Long in the women. In the men's doubles were Ken McGregor and Frank Sedgman , in the women's doubles Thelma Long and Nancye Bolton were the defending champions. In mixed, Thelma Long and George Worthington were the defending champions.
