Rex Noel Hartwig (born September 2, 1929 in Culcairn , New South Wales ) is a retired Australian tennis player .

In 1953 he was able to win the doubles of the American tennis championships with Mervyn Rose against the Americans Gardnar Mulloy and Bill Talbert in four sets 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 2 and 6: 4, after he had previously won the American Julie Sampson had won the mixed doubles of the Australian Tennis Championships against Maureen Connolly and Hamilton Richardson in straight sets 6: 4 and 6: 3 .

1954 Hartwig was second at the Australian tennis championships . He lost to his doubles partner Mervyn Rose in four sets with 2: 6, 6: 0, 4: 6 and 2: 6. In the doubles competition, Rex Hartwig and Mervyn Rose competed in the final against their compatriots Neale Fraser and Clive Wilderspin . They won the game in three sets with 6: 3, 6: 4 and 6: 2. Hartwig won the mixed doubles in this competition in 1954. At his side played Thelma Coyne Long , with whom he defeated the Australians Beryl Penrose and John Bromwich in three sets with 4: 6, 6: 1 and 6: 2 in the final . At the French tennis championships in the same year he lost with Jacqueline Patorni in mixed doubles Maureen Connolly and Lew Hoad in two sets with 6: 4 and 6: 3. Hartwig and Rose won the double final at Wimbledon in 1954 against the Americans Vic Seixas and Tony Trabert in four sets with 6: 4, 6: 4, 3: 6 and 6: 4. Hartwig made it into the final in the singles of the American tennis championships that year, but lost the game against Vic Seixas in four sets with 6: 3, 2: 6, 4: 6 and 4: 6.

In 1955 Hartwig and Rose were able to repeat their success at Wimbledon from the previous year with a win in three sets (7: 5, 6: 4 and 6: 3) against their compatriots Neale Fraser and Ken Rosewall .
