Leonardo Fernández , full name Leonardo Cecilio Fernández López , (born November 8, 1998 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.66 meter tall midfielder Fernández has been part of the squad of the first division club Centro Atlético Fénix since the 2015 Clausura , in whose youth teams he has played at least since 2014. He made his debut with the Montevideans at the age of 16 under coach Rosario Martínez on May 31, 2015 in the 0-2 away defeat against Club Atlético Peñarol in the Primera División , when he came on in the 86th minute for Martín Ligüera . In the 2015 Clausura he played in a total of one first division game (no goal). During the 2015/16 season, twelve more first division appearances followed (no goal). In the 2016 season, he made eight further premier league appearances (no goal) and one (no goal) in the 2016 Copa Sudamericana . This was followed in the current 2017 season (as of February 10, 2017) another appearance (no goal) in the Primera División.

National team

Fernández made his debut on November 13, 2012 in a 2-1 away win in the friendly against Newell's Old Boys in the Uruguayan U-15 national team coached by Alejandro Garay . He has a total of 15 international matches in this age group. He scored two hits. He took part with the selection, among other things, at the Caspian Cup in Baku , Azerbaijan . He also took part in the Torneo Tahuichi Aguilera 2013 in Bolivia.

Since 2014 he has been part of the Uruguayan U-17 team under coach Santiago Ostolaza . In this he made his debut on May 13th that year in a 3-0 win in the friendly against Paraguay. He was a member of the squad at the U-17 South American Championship in Paraguay in 2015 , in which Uruguay finished 5th. He was used five times during the tournament. He didn't score a goal. So far (as of June 5, 2015) it has been deployed a total of 14 times in the U-17. The statistics show him four international goals.
