Anna Wladimirowna Blinkowa ( Russian Анна Владимировна Блинкова , English spelling Anna Blinkova ; born September 10, 1998 in Moscow ) is a Russian tennis player .

Career

Blinkowa already attracted attention as a junior when she reached the final of the Wimbledon junior competition in 2015 , which she lost to Sofja Schuk 5-7 and 4-6. Nevertheless, she moved up to third place in the junior women's tennis world rankings. In addition, she won the double competition of the renowned junior tournament Abierto Juvenil Mexicano in 2014 together with Fanni Stollar and in 2015 alongside Yevgenia Levaschowa . Her greatest success, however, was winning the 2016 ITF Junior Masters in Chengdu , where she prevailed in three close sets in the final against Katie Swan .

In 2015 Blinkowa began playing her first tournaments on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour , and in 2016 she won her first professional title in Stammheim after qualifying. She made her debut on the WTA tour in the same year in Rabat , where she was allowed to start with a wildcard , but was eliminated in the first round by Timea Bacsinszky . After she won her first title at an ITF tournament in the $ 25,000 category in Westende in August , she received another wildcard for the 2016 Kremlin Cup in Moscow , this time for the qualification, and came in straight away after an opening win against Anastasija Sevastova the second round, in which she could no longer compete due to injury.

The following year, she first appeared in a women's Grand Slam tournament at the Australian Open . After three successes in qualifying, she won her first victory in a main draw in the first round against Monica Niculescu , before she failed to Karolína Plíšková in the second round without a chance. She was also able to qualify for the main draw in London and New York , but lost there in the first round. In 2018, Blinkowa surprised by moving into the third round of Doha , in which she could only be stopped by Caroline Garcia . She then won an ITF tournament in the $ 50,000 category in Croissy-Beaubourg and won her first WTA double title in Rabat on the side of Raluca Olaru . In the same year she survived the second round for the first time at Wimbledon and was included in the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time at the end of 2018.

After a mixed start into 2019, she reached the final in a tournament in the $ 100,000 category in Trnava and then qualified for the third round at the French Open , where she had to admit defeat to Madison Keys . In September she was able to celebrate her biggest title win to date at a tournament of the WTA Challenger Series in New Haven after a final success over Usue Maitane Arconada . Towards the end of the season she reached her first WTA semifinals in Guangzhou , in which she was defeated by the eventual winner Sofia Kenin ; a month later she was again in a semi-finals in Luxembourg , where she was beaten by Jeļena Ostapenko . At the beginning of the 2020 season, she celebrated her first win against a top 10 player against Belinda Bencic and achieved her best world ranking so far with rank 54.

In 2017, Blinkova made her debut for the Russian Fed Cup team in the quarter-finals against Taiwan . Since then, she has played three games in singles and doubles for her country, of which she was able to win (individual balance 0: 1).
