Abierto Juvenil Mexicano
The Abierto Juvenil Mexicano was a world junior tennis tournament hosted by the International Tennis Federation from 2011 to 2017 , which took place every year at the turn of the year on a clay court in Mexico City . Together with the Trofeo Bonfiglio , the Banana Bowl , the Osaka Mayor's Cup and the Orange Bowl , the tournament was part of the internationally important series of Grade A tournaments and, together with the junior competitions of the four Grand Slam tournaments, was one of the most important tennis tournaments in the world for juniors.
history
Founded in 1977 as Copa Internacional Casablanca , the tournament took place on hard courts until it was renamed Abierto Juvenil Mexicano . The venue was originally the Casablanca tennis club of the same name in the Tlalnepantla district . In 2011 the games were played on the clay courts of the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec . As early as 2004, the ITF accepted the tournament into the highest junior competition class.
Winners list
Participants in the tournament include numerous Grand Slam champions such as Roger Federer , Ivan Lendl , Goran Ivanišević , Thomas Muster , Caroline Wozniacki , Juan Martín del Potro and Gabriela Sabatini . The former world number one Jelena Janković was also able to win the title.
