Barbara Schwartz (born January 27, 1979 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian tennis player .

Career

Barbara Schwartz began her professional career on the WTA Tour in 1995 at the age of 16 . In 1999 she reached 40th place in the WTA world rankings, her highest individual placement. In that year, she achieved her greatest success in a Grand Slam tournament, when she was able to advance to the quarter-finals in the French Open with a completely surprising eighth-final victory over Venus Williams - as the first ever qualifier.

In her career she has won two tournaments in doubles, the first in Brussels (Belgium) in 2002 and the other in Bogotá (Colombia) in 2004. She won both titles alongside the German Jasmin Wöhr . She also made it to the finals twice, in 2000 in Auckland (Australia) with Austrian Patricia Wartusch and in 2002 in Vienna with Jasmin Wöhr.

Fed Cup

Schwartz also played for the Austrian Fed Cup team for several years (1998–99, 2001–02, 2004 and 2006). In 2002 and 2004 she reached the semi-finals with the team: in 2002 they failed 3-2 to Spain and in 2004 after a 4-1 victory in the quarter-finals over the United States 5-0 to Russia. Schwartz 'Fed Cup record stands at 9: 8 wins, she was involved in the greatest successes of the ÖTV .

Barbara Schwartz ended her active career in 2006.
