Trimmel played in junior tournaments between 1993 and 1996. In the junior competition of the French Open and the US Open in 1994 he reached the second round, two years later he failed in both tournaments in the first round. In 1997 he became a professional tennis player, but in the course of his career mostly only played on lower-class futures tournaments and the ATP Challenger Tour . He celebrated his greatest success in July 2000 when he won the individual title at the Challenger tournament in Oberstaufen . He was only able to qualify once for a tournament on the ATP World Tour , in Palermo he defeated Marc-Kevin Goellner , among others , but then failed in the first round. He made it into the main field several times at tournaments held in Austria with a wildcard , including three times in St. Pölten between 1996 and 1998 . In 1996 he failed in the first round to Stefano Pescosolido and in 1998 to Thomas Muster , only in 1997 he was able to reach the second round there with a surprising victory over Jonas Björkman . He was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. He reached the highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 2001 with position 147 in singles and 419 in doubles.
Trimmel played a singles and doubles game for the Austrian Davis Cup team between 2001 and 2002 , but lost both games. In 2004, Trimmel, who was looked after by Karl Meiler , had to end his professional career after seven foot operations. From 2012 to 2014 he was the captain of the Austrian Davis Cup team.
