Adrian Cruciat (born March 31, 1983 in Timișoara ) is a former Romanian tennis player .
Career
Cruciat started playing tennis at the age of 8 and was able to win his first tournaments as a junior. He took part in three Grand Slam tournaments in 2000 and made the quarter-finals at the French Open , where he lost to Nicolas Mahut . His best individual placement was 5th in May 2000.
As early as 1999 he played his first tournaments with the professionals on the third-class ITF Future Tour without celebrating any notable successes. It wasn't until 2001 that he made it into the top 1000 in the world rankings . In his first appearance in May 2003 on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in Budapest , he made it to the semi-finals in doubles. In the following years he was mainly active on the Future Tour, where he won 14 singles and 21 doubles titles in his career. It wasn't until 2007 that he made a small breakthrough. In both singles and doubles on the Challenger Tour, he increasingly made it to the semi-finals, which meant he was about to make it into the top 200 in singles.
In January 2008 he failed in singles qualification for the Australian Open , as well as later at the French Open and Wimbledon Championships . On the Challenger Tour he celebrated his only title win. In Saint-Brieuc he prevailed in doubles alongside Daniel Muñoz de La Nava in three sets. Subsequently, he took his best double placement with the 218th place. In June he achieved his highest individual ranking with 148th place. In Bucharest in September, Cruciat moved into the second round after giving up his opponent and celebrated his only victory on the ATP World Tour . In the same month he made his debut for the Romanian Davis Cup team . He appeared in the play-off game against India in doubles. He lost the game with his partner Horia Tecau , overall Romania won and stayed in the world group. In the following years he played more tournaments on the Future Tour and ended his active career in 2012. He then worked as a TV expert for a Romanian sports broadcaster.
