Zeng Shaoxuan ( Chinese 曾 少 眩 , Pinyin Zēng Shàoxuàn ; born August 29, 1981 in Nanjing ) is a former Chinese tennis player .
Career
Advancement in the world rankings (until 2003)
Zeng played his first professional tournaments in 2001 and had his first double appearance at a tournament on the ATP World Tour . In Shanghai he received a wildcard for double field with Xu Ran . There they failed to the fourth seeded Czech Petr Luxa and Radek Štěpánek . In 2002 he made his debut for the Chinese Davis Cup team in the match against Kuwait . Thanks to his success on the ITF Future Tour , he made it into the top 300 in the world rankings in mid-2003 . He received another wild card for the tournament in Shanghai. At the side of Zhu Benqiang , he advanced to the final, in which they had to admit defeat to the Australian pairing Wayne Arthurs and Paul Hanley . He finished the year in 149th place, his best place to date.
Career best in doubles and participation in the Asian Games (2004-2006)
On the ATP Challenger Tour , Zeng increasingly reached the semifinals and worked his way up to 129th in the world rankings, which also meant his best career placement. On the ATP World Tour played in the main draw in Beijing and Shanghai, but did not survive the first round. In the world rankings, he briefly fell out of the top 1000 in the world, and by September 2006 worked his way back to close to the top 300 through several futures titles and a semi-finals in Shanghai. At the Asian Games he played in doubles, team competitions and mixed. He could only win a match in mixed with Yan Zi , but was eliminated there in the quarterfinals.
First title on the Challenger Tour and participation in the Olympic Games (2007-2008)
After twelve double titles on the Future Tour, Zeng won his first title on the Challenger Tour in March. Together with his partner Yu Xinyuan , he defeated the duo Sebastian Rieschick and Wang Yeu-tzuoo in the final in Ho Chi Minh City in two sets. He was able to repeat this success later that year in New Delhi . After his third title in Guangzhou , he was back in the top 150 in January 2008, while he was only just under the top 600 in doubles. In June he won his last title on the Challenger Tour for the fourth time with his doubles partner Yu. In Reggio nell'Emilia he defeated Mariano Hood and Leonardo Mayer in the final . At the Summer Olympics in Beijing , Zeng took part in singles and doubles . Both in singles - against David Nalbandian - and in doubles - against the Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski - he was eliminated without winning a set.
Last Davis Cup appearance and withdrawal from professional sport (2009)
In 2009, Zeng won his only three individual titles on the Futuretour, which improved him in the world rankings. He played in the Davis Cup for the last time in September. In the encounter against Thailand , with two wins in singles and winning the doubles game, he made a significant contribution to China staying in Group I of the Oceania / Asia zone. To date, with 12 double victories, he is the player with the most wins. Overall, he has a score of 4: 4 in singles and 12: 6 in doubles. At the first Shanghai Masters , Zeng received a wildcard for the individual field .
