Bote Nzuzi "Ridle" Baku (born April 8, 1998 in Mainz ) is a German - Congolese soccer player . He has been under contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 since 2007 and is a young German national player.

Career

In the club

Baku joined the youth performance center of 1. FSV Mainz 05 in 2007 and went through this up to the A-youth . In the summer of 2017 he was promoted to the second men's team . On August 16, 2017, he received his first professional contract with a term until June 30, 2020. On December 19, 2017, Baku made his debut in the first team under coach Sandro Schwarz in the 3-1 win against VfB Stuttgart in the DFB Cup in the starting XI. On April 29, 2018, he scored the goal in his first Bundesliga game to make it 3-0 against RB Leipzig in the 90th minute of the game. He was called up on the starting grid at short notice. Baku also scored a goal in its second Bundesliga game: With a 2-1 away win at Borussia Dortmund , 1. FSV Mainz 05 were relegated on matchday 33. Following the season, his contract term was extended to 2022 in June 2018.

In the national team

Baku played in the German U18 national team from November 2015 to May 2016 , for which he scored one goal in ten games. From September 2016 to July 2017 he was featured ten times in the U19 team and scored three goals. He played four times for the U20 . He has been playing for the U21 national team since September 2019 .

Private

Baku's family moved from Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo ) to Germany in 1992 . His twin brother Makana is also a soccer player. His older brother Kokolo, called Dali, (* 1993) played in his youth at SV Darmstadt 98 , where he trained several times with the pros when he was 17, and at FSV Frankfurt .

At the beginning of 2018, Baku had his nickname Ridle , which his father gave him based on Karl-Heinz Riedle , entered on his identity card .
