Ji Dong-won (born May 28, 1991 in Jeju-si ) is a South Korean football player . He is under contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 .

Career

societies

Ji Dong-won was trained by Jeonnam Dragons at Gwangyang Jecheol High School. Between 2007 and 2008 he interrupted this training and played in England for the youth of Reading FC . In 2010 he made his professional debut for the Jeonnam Dragons. In July 2011 he moved to the English Premier League for AFC Sunderland . For the second half of the 2012/13 season , Ji was awarded to the German first division club FC Augsburg . On January 20, 2013 (18th matchday), he made his debut in the Bundesliga, when his club won 3-2 against Fortuna Düsseldorf . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on February 23, 2013 (23rd matchday) in a 2-1 win at home against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim with the goal to lead them 1-0 in the 45th minute.

For the 2013/14 season Ji returned to Sunderland. However, by mid-January 2014 he only made five appearances in the league and one in the FA Cup and one in the League Cup . On January 16, 2014 Ji returned to FC Augsburg. He signed a contract that ran until the end of the season. At the same time, Ji signed a four-year contract with Borussia Dortmund , which was valid from the 2014/15 season . Also due to injuries, Ji only made five appearances in the second team in the third division at BVB .

On January 1, 2015, Ji moved to FC Augsburg for the third time. At the end of January 2018, FC Augsburg awarded him to SV Darmstadt 98 until the end of the season .

For the 2019/20 season, the Korean made a free transfer to 1. FSV Mainz 05 , with whom he signed a contract that ran until June 2022.

National team

Ji Dong-won made his debut for the senior national team on December 30, 2010 in a test international against the selection of Syria . He scored the only goal of the game. In the Asian Cup in 2011 scoring four goals Ji Dong-won and reached with South Korea to third place .

In 2012 he was part of the roster for the Olympic Games and was used in all six games. In the game for third place , he and his team were able to win the first medal for South Korean football players with the bronze medal.

On May 9, 2014, he was appointed to the South Korean national team for the 2014 World Cup by national coach Hong Myung-bo .
