Luca Jannis Kilian (born September 1, 1999 in Dortmund ) is a German soccer player . The central defender is under contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 and is a young German national player.

Career

From the age of five, Kilian, who can be used variably in defense, was trained in football in his hometown of Dortmund at Hombrucher SV 09/72 . The later professionals Mario and Felix Götze had already played there when they were children. He then moved to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund at the age of twelve after scouts from the club had spotted him at a youth tournament. At BVB, he was used from the D youth in all other youth teams .

With the U17 he made it to the final round of the championship in the 2015/16 B-Junior Bundesliga , but failed with the team in the final at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the following season he also reached the final of the German championship with the A-youth, which the young Borussia won after winning on penalties against FC Bayern . In front of 33,450 spectators, Kilian also converted his penalty.

In the spring of 2018 Kilian retired with the BVB U19 in the semi-finals of the final against the eventual champions Hertha BSC . The defender gained experience in continental European football in his last two junior seasons in the UEFA Youth League , in which BVB was eliminated in the round of 16 and the next year after the group stage.

For the 2018/19 regional league season , Kilian was permanently integrated into the squad of BVB's second team under coach Jan Siewert . He finished the season with Dortmund II in 5th place and played 28 games (4 goals) as a regular player.

In summer 2019 he was signed by Bundesliga promoted SC Paderborn 07 until June 2021; he completed 15 Bundesliga games and rose with the SC after the season as bottom of the table.

In August 2020 Kilian moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 . His contract runs until 2024.

National team

From the U18 onwards , Kilian played for all of the DFB's junior national teams . Since September 2019 he has been part of the U21 squad , which is in the qualification for the European Championship 2021 .

Kilian has successfully passed his technical diploma. He cites Mats Hummels as a footballing role model and completed an internship in the club's commercial department during his time at BVB.

His grandfather is the former soccer player Amand "Westerwälder Eisenfuß" Theis , who played almost 300 games in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga between the 1960s and 80s.

Kilian tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on March 13, 2020 . It was the first confirmed case in the first Bundesliga .
