Jan Siewert (born August 23, 1982 in Mayen ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach .
Career
As a player
Siewert was born in Mayen , Rhineland-Palatinate , and played in three different teams in lower-class leagues of the Rhineland Football Association until he retired at the age of 27 . He was preferred to be used in midfield. With TuS Mayen , he took part in the first main round of the 2004/05 DFB Cup .
As a functionary
Just a few months after the end of his career as a player, the young Siewert found a job at the DFB as the sporting director and support point coordinator of the Rhineland Football Association , which he held until June 2015.
As a trainer
At the Hennes-Weisweiler-Akademie zu Cologne , Siewert completed his football teacher training course in 2013 alongside Otto Addo and André Breitenreiter . The Eifeler also gained his first experience as a trainer at the DFB, where he was the head coach of the U17 and U18 juniors for a total of two years . His first position as head coach was Rot-Weiss Essen . Siewert coached Essen for the 2015/16 regional league season and finished twelfth with the team.
After another year at VfL Bochum , he took over the U23 of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund from Daniel Farke , who took over Norwich City , in July 2017 . In his first season he was fourth with the team and played for long stretches for promotion to the third division .
In January 2019 Siewert asked for a contract termination in order to train the English first division club Huddersfield Town as the successor to David Wagner , also ex-U23 coach of BVB. With a few exceptions, the club has been in the relegation zone since the start of the season. After the 32nd game day, Huddersfield Town was the first to be relegated to the second-rate EFL Championship . This had not happened to a team this early since Derby County in the 2007-08 season . After the start of the second division season 2019/20 failed with just one point from three games, he was dismissed immediately after a 1: 2 defeat by Fulham on August 17, 2019.
